On 28 August 2012, the group was awarded 'International Sustainability and Carbon Certification’ (ISCC) for the group’s established estates, palm oil mills and storage facility. The aim of the ISCC system is to verify that biomass destined for the production of biofuel has been produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. This includes demonstrating that the GHG emissions associated with the production and use of this biofuel would be at least 35 per cent lower than if fossil fuel were to be used for the same purpose. ISCC certified palm oil can be used to manufacture biodiesel that meets the requirements of the European Union Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED).
